Vrbdg bei Her., Thuc. u. Folgdn; auch zuweilen ἐπί τινα, Xen. Anab. 3, 1, 5 u. auch 1, 3, 4 die richtige Lesart; πρός τινα, Plat. Legg. III, 686 b; Isocr. 4, 69; vgl. Thuc. 1, 141. – Mit einem accus., τινά, bekriegen, feindselig behandeln, Sp., wie Pol. 1, 15, 10 Plut. Sull. 3 u. sonst; pass., ἦγον τὴν εἰρήνην ἄσμενοι, ἐκ πολλοῠ πολεμούμενοι, Dem. 18, 43, der vrbdt αὐτὸς μὲν πολεμεῖν ὑμῖν, ὑφ' ὑμῶν δὲ μὴ πολεμεῖσϑαι, 9, 9; εἰ ἀμφοτέρωϑεν πολεμοῖντο, Xen, Hell. 7, 4, 20; das fut. πολεμήσομαι in pass. Sinne steht Thuc. 1, 68. 3, 43. – Häufig wird es auch von Wortstreitigkeiten, selbst über einen wissenschaftlichen Gegenstand gebraucht, wie Xen. Cyr. 1, 3, 12; vgl. Plut. Thes. 10; a. Sp.
