ἀλύω, nur praes. u. impft., irr sein im Geiste (vgl. ἀλεύω), Hom. fünfmal, Od. 18, 333. 393 ἶ ἀλύεις, ὅτι Ἶρον ἐνίκησας τὸν ἀλήτην, hat die Freude dich toll gemacht; 9, 398 τὸν μὲν ἔπειτ' ἔρριψενἀπὸ ἕο χερσὶν ἀλύων, außer sich vor Schmerzen, Iliad. 5, 352 ἡ δ' ἀλύουσ' ἀπεβήσετο, völlig außer Fassung; 24, 12 δινεύεσκ' ἀλύων παρὰ ϑῖν' ἁλός, vom Weh gepeitscht; – vgl. Plut. Aud. poet. 5 über die Bedeutung; VLL. μέση λέξις, χαίρειν καὶ λυπεῖσϑαι; Aesch. Sept. 391; Soph. Phil. 174. 1179 El. 133; dem εὐπορεῖν entggstzt Alex. Ath. VI, 237 d; ὀδύνῃ περὶ ϑυμὸν ἀλύων Ap. Rh. 3, 866; sp. D.; Aesop. 13; Langeweile haben Ael. V. H. 14, 12. Bei Sp. in Prosa = betrübt, verwirrt umherirren, Luc. Dial. mar. 13, 1 Plut. Timol. 14. Das υ ist bei Hom. außer Od. 9, 398 kurz, bei Attikern lang; Sp. Ep. brauchen es nach dem Bedürfniß des Verses lang u. kurz. Od. 18, 333. 393 wollte Ptolem. Askalonit. mit spir. asper lesen ἁλύεις, Scholl. Iliad. 5, 352; Herodian. 24, 12 δινεύεσκ' ἀλύων: ψιλῶς τὸ ἀλύων· δῆλον κἀκ τῆς συναλοιφῆς.
