ξύω (vgl. ξέω), schaben, abreiben und dadurch glätten; λίστροισιν δάπεδον ξῦον, Od. 22, 456, sie rieben mit Schürfeisen den Fußboden ab u. glätteten ihn; vom Gewebe, ἑανὸν – ὅν οἱ Ἀϑήνη ἔξυσ' ἀσκήσασα, Il. 14, 179, sie hatte das Gewand glatt gemacht, d. i. sauber und sein gearbeitet, denn der Weber muß das seine Gewebe sorgfältig von Flocken rein und glatt halten; ξῦσαι ἀπὸ γῆρας ὀλοιόν, das Alter hinwegreiben, tilgen, H. h. Ven. 225; vom Holze, schaben, glätten, Xen. Cyr. 6, 2, 32, im aor. med. ξύσασϑαι, für sich; Sp.; Hesych. erkl. auch ritzen, einkratzen; ἔξυσμαι wird aus Sophron angeführt. – [Υ, welches bei Hom. in allen tempp. lang ist, wird von Nonn. im aor. kurz gebraucht, vgl. Wern. Tryph. 516.]
